How can i stop generating static from my body when i wear my polyester t-shirts?

always when i wear my football shirts ect they cling to me because of the static and when i take them off i hear it crackling away its very annoying! i have tried throwing it against the metal radiator ect but it does not work!!! what causes this and how can i stop it, i just want a static free life!!! any suggestions please......?
