Gles prescription?

my prescription in both eyes are -4.50 and i want to chose a lens for my frames without spending to munch money will i be okay to go with a 1.56 mid index lens,my gles are only going to be used as a back up however i may wear them every now and them but i want to aviod extra thick gles can someone help me out
